I Am Becoming CD

LINER NOTES:

“I Am Becoming…”  (2008) has become! Yes, my first-ever, all-original, full-length recording project—more than 25 years in the making—is at last complete and ready for release! Whew! What a journey it has been! I am filled to the brim with emotion: gratitude, relief, pride, excitement, accomplishment, and, more than anything, awe. I feel so blessed and honored to have “received” this music and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to share it with you, the listener!

When I stepped away from my full time position as Music Director for Christ Unity Church in Sacramento last September, I had no idea where my spiritual and musical paths would lead me; I only knew that I was getting the “green light” from the universe to step forth boldly, brilliantly and beautifully, to do that which was mine to do! I also knew that I had written more than eight albums’-worth of original material (with more coming on a daily basis) and I felt a burning desire to record and distribute it in any form or fashion available to me. Given that I had virtually no budget to work with and, at the same time, was working primarily as a solo artist, I eventually realized that the most logical approach for my first album was in “DIY” fashion, with just my voice and my own keyboard accompaniment, recorded “Live, In-Studio.” What I didn’t realize at the time (thanks, universal wisdom!) was how perfect this decision would ultimately prove to be, given the turn that my life was about to take, and the significance this music—and the recording of it—would have in my recovery process.

As a result, “I Am Becoming…” became a collection of 14 original, meditative, thought-provoking and soulful compositions, presented in the most intimate and accessible manner possible. My intention is that the music take you—as it did me—on a journey of personal discovery, healing and, ultimately, transformation; in other words, a journey toward “becoming…”

That said, this journey would not have been possible without the incredible generosity and support of many “beautiful beings,” including:
-Steve Walker at Point Source Sound in Gold River, for lending expert engineering, editing, mixing, mastering and production services, as well as true friendship along the way!
-Gus Hunt, my number-one fan, partner, manager and “handler,” for keeping the faith even when I lost it myself and for “putting your money where your mouth is!”
-Keith Jensen, photographer extraordinaire, for conceiving of and creating all album and promotional images, as well as being a fabulous yoga partner!
-Lisa Libutti (Booty!), internet marketing specialist and “part-time” graphic designer, for devoting countless hours researching, designing and re-creating my c.d. cover, as well as being the “BRE” (best roommate ever)!
-Jesse & Trish Falls at Infiniti12 Records, for c.d. design and reproduction services, as well as lending HUGE moral support when I needed it most!
-Rev. Jim Lee and staff at Christ Unity Church, for providing me a platform from which to “spread my musical wings” and to realize so many of my musical and spiritual aspirations!
-My friends, family, loved ones and colleagues, for listening, singing along, inspiring, influencing and, ultimately, bringing this music to life in so many ways!
-And last, but certainly not least, Holy Spirit; Infinite Light; Mother-Father-God; Divine Love; Universal Source; All-That-Is, for choosing me to carry this music forth into the world and for knowing, in Your infinite wisdom, that it would ultimately be my salvation.
